Dear minesweeper players,
I am writing you because there is a big problem in the Minesweeper Community and it will affect all Chinese players and the China Ranking.
Clone 0.97 was made illegal for the world ranking in 2008. I decided to allow Chinese players to continue playing Clone 0.97 because Clone 2007 does not work on all Chinese computers. I talked with Zhang Shen-Jia in 2011 and we investigated the problem, but no changes were made to saolei.net. We hoped Rodrigo would make a new version of Clone, but Rodrigo has stopped forever.
The fact that all Chinese games are Clone 0.97 is a big problem. Many players do not trust scores from the China ranking. Every time you make 10 seconds or 45 seconds people ask why I accept your scores on an illegal version. This year we discovered a cheat in Clone 2007, and now a vote has started about making all versions of Clone illegal because it will never be fixed. Shen-Jia is not updating the ranking to allow other versions (Minesweeper X, Arbiter, Viennasweeper) and Rodrigo is not updating Clone. We have waited 5 years.
I am sorry, but on 30 June 2013 the world ranking will stop allowing Clone 0.97 videos. (Games made before that day can be added to the ranking). I will allow Clone 2007 videos but this will probably stop before 2014.
I know this is a big problem for you, because you need saolei.net to be changed to allow other versions like Arbiter, MSX or Viennasweeper. It is also a problem for me, because the world ranking needs to use the same rules for everyone. The world ranking needs to be improved to make it more friendly to Chinese players, and if some of you want to help translate it into Chinese I will be very happy. Gacord (Guo Jin-Yang) has some ideas for making the two sites work together, and I would like to know your opinions.
