Hello everybody!
I have plans to visit China in September 2010 (probably in 2nd part of the month). I'd like to visit Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Xi'an.I will have only 2 weeks for this trip, that's not a lot for such intense program, so it would be great to know in advance how to divide this 2 weeks between the cities and which major sights i should see.
I'll have direct flight from Moscow to Beijing or Shanghai. I'm thinking how to move from one city to another in China, should i use airplane or maybe train? This cities are quite far from each other, is there trains which take only one night in each direction? and is it possible to buy tickets in advance?
I'll appreciate any advise. Thanks.
Yours faithfully, Roman Gammel, Moscow (Russia) 1-10-42

you can travel to Shanghai/beijing/Xian by train at night. It saves time and money. To HK by flight is better.
there are a lot of scopes in Xian and beijing which represents China History, 4 days each.
HK and shanghai are modern, 2~3 days each. You can buy something.

major sights in Beijing/Xi'an/Shanghai & Hongkong. minesweepers in these cities can give some advice.
对外国朋友来说,北京、西安、上海、香港各有哪些必去景点, 当地雷友给些建议吧。

I've read some things about chinese railways. Are the following statements true? 1. I can buy ticket only 20 days (max) before departure. 2. If I'm for example in Beijing I can't buy ticket from Xian to Shanghai (its possible to buy tickets only from Beijing to another city). Is there chinese website to book tickets in web? I found some english websites, but it looks like they sell tickets with price multiplied by 1,5-2.
Probably I'll travel by train inside China: Beijing-Xian-Shanghai-Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Guangzhou-Wuhan-Beijing. Is it necessary to have stop in Guangzhou or there are direct overnight trains from Shanghai to Hong Kong? Also maybe anyone can advise me how to get better from Hong Kong to Beijing. There is T-train from Guangzhou to Beijing, but it goes 21 hours and tooks 1 day of my journey. Is it better to use fast G-train from Guangzhou to Wuhan and take overnight express from Wuhan to Beijing? Is there any other choise? And also Wuhan and Wuchang are the same train stations?
P.S. I already have tickets from Moscow to Beijing, I'll be in China from Sep 11 till Sep 24.
Thanks for help.

1. I can buy ticket only 20 days (max) before departure. Normally 10 days before departure
2. If I'm for example in Beijing I can't buy ticket from Xian to Shanghai (its possible to buy tickets only from Beijing to another city). Yes, you can only buy ticket from beijing to another city.
3. Is there chinese website to book tickets in web? I found some english websites, but it looks like they sell tickets with price multiplied by 1,5-2. It seems no good website to sell tickets with normal procie. You can book next stop tickets when you arrive one city through the hotel, it saves time.
4. Wuchang station is one station of Wuhan city. Wuhan has 3 stations.
5. the cost of G train and flight is almost the same, if you book flight through CTRIP WEBSITE 1 month in advance. C TRIP is the most famous website in china booking flight/hotel. http://www.ctrip.com/

Hi again!
I've decided to travel by airplanes and finally I have a schedule: Sep 11-13 Beijing (13 evening flight to Xian) Sep 14-16 Xian (16 evening flight to Guangzhou) Sep 17 Guangzhou (17 evening train to Hong Kong) Sep 18 Hong Kong Sep 19 Shenzhen (19 evening flight to Shanghai) Sep 20-23 Shanghai (EXPO, maybe halfday trip to Suzhou,23 at noon flight to Beijing) Sep 24 morning flight to Moscow
I would be great to meet with minesweepers in these cities, maybe to drink beer/tea and play :) If anyone wants to meet please mail me: roman.gammel@gmail.com
And last question: i'm thinking about visiting Luoyang and it's neighbourhood ( Longmen Grottoes, Shaolin Monastery). I can come to Luoyang from Xian by G2002 train (arr. to Luoyang 10:23) and come back to Xian by G2013 train (dep. 21:01). Is it possible to come to Luoyang and quickly find tourist office which will organize this trip? Only 10 hours for both sights :(

Welcome to China!

Hi!
I always stay at Xi'an before but I went out for work recently, so I may not be able to meet you in Sep
I'll try to see if I can find a better travel agency for you, or look for some guys who love minesweeper and fortunately have free time to be with you.
